Olive Branch

Sometimes, I catch a scene that makes me marvel at our natural urge to communicate across boundaries. When we don’t share language, we make simple gestures of friendship.

This one is between a human and a young orangutan. It reminds me of the idea of extending an olive branch to show goodwill.

Wasn’t it Solomon who told us that to have friends, we must first show ourselves to be friendly Pro 18:24 ?

When you don’t have an olive branch, you can simply use whatever is available. In this case, it seems to be working.

Can’t Stop Dancing

Where is John Travolta when you need him?

I’m working on my dance moves, and somehow, disco seems to be my style.

I challenge him to a dance-off.

I just can’t stop dancing, yeah!

Sit in the Corner

Did your parents ever make you sit in a corner for misbehaving?

This orangutan seems to be using the corner as a place for a nap.

Maybe corners aren’t always a bad thing.

Lock Picker

This was a fun thing to capture with my camera.

Our orangutan friend does not appreciate being locked inside.

He appears to have made himself a lock-picking tool.

It didn’t work to open the door while I observed, though I suspect he continued to experiment.
