Got Your Goat

We use the expression, “Got your goat” to mean we annoyed or confused someone.

I wonder about the origin of that expression.

One possibility is the tale that people used to put goats beside race horses to provide a calming effect and improve their performance.

If you wanted someone’s horse to race poorly, you would get their goat and prevent that calming effect.

She Threw Me to the Bobcats

As I was attempting to get a photo of the bobcats, the angle was not good from the viewing area.

Around the enclosure, there was a log fence.

Aunt Pam suggested I step up on the bottom rung of the fence to improve my view.

Tentatively, I placed my weight on the lowest log. It moved and I began to slip.

Did Aunt Pam cry out in alarm?

No, she laughed. I felt like she was throwing me to the bobcats.

Disclaimer: Even if I had fallen over the fence, the bobcats couldn’t have gotten me. They were behind a more secure inner enclosure. As you can see, my noisy attempt at a better view didn’t even wake them up from a nap. Still, it made a good story to say she threw me to the bobcats.

Prince of Eaters

This is Prince, a miniature horse.

His best features are that he is that he is smart, likes to have fun, and has excellent eyesight.

One short-coming is that he can’t control his appetite.

Please, no matter how much he begs for a second helping, don’t give it to him.

Sup?

I caught a photo of Radi with an expression that seemed to be asking me, “What’s up?”

I’ve noticed that many people now say, “Sup?”

Is this a form of verbal laziness?

Perhaps the reason we say it is that our thumbs are tired from texting.

It’s easier to type “sup” than, “what’s been happening with you lately?”

Bring on the Cabbage!

This Cabbage Butterfly feeds on plants, especially cabbage and broccoli.

This photo suggests the butterfly is saying, “Bring on the Cabbage!”

If you grow cabbage, they are not your friend.

On the other hand, if you view cabbage as a yucky vegetable, they may be doing you a favor.

Macaw Socially Intelligent

Macaws are intelligent, social birds.

Seeing them together makes me ponder on how some people are socially intelligent and some are simply clueless.

  • Do you have good social skills?
  • Does it come naturally or is it a challenge for you?

Koala Joke

Everyone says I’m the funny one in my family. Here’s one of my jokes.

While he was mending fences out on the range, a devout Australian cowboy lost his Bible.

Three weeks later, a koala walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth.

Amazed, the cowboy gratefully took the Bible and exclaimed, “It’s a miracle!”

“Not really,” said the koala, “I found your name written on the inside cover.”

Your Strength Can Be Your Weakness

This bison has thick hair which makes it possible to be comfortable in temperatures as low as 49 degrees below zero.

This strength becomes a weakness in the summer.

Fortunately, in the spring, it molts its winter hair.
